January is Vocational Service month for Rotary. It is vital to the vibrancy of our clubs that the value of all useful occupations be recognized and given the opportunity to be utilized as Rotary seeks to help solve societal needs.
Rotarians are assigned a classification. This classification may serve as a resource for club leaders to help get members involved in meeting community needs. Members are not by any means limited to one skill area (Most Rotarians are multi-talented!), but as the club participates in projects, it should give members the opportunity to develop vocational skills and learn from the talents of others in our community.
Rotary District 5790 offers leadership development through the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI). The next date for RLI is February 8, 2025. If you are ready to take your leadership skills to the next level you should look to register for the next class. RLI will be held at Tarrant County College Northwest Campus. If you start in February you can complete all three parts and achieve your Certificate of Graduation by the end of the year!
Rotary’s focus on Vocational Services highlights the need for club members to know what each Rotarian brings to the table from their business and professional life. In the near future we plan to recognize the vocations of our members in club meetings!
On January 9, I watched the funeral for former President Jimmy Carter. Hearing how people from all walks of life spoke of his character, I thought he sounds like a Rotarian. Indeed, President Carter was an honorary Rotarian. His image was featured on the February, 2018 cover of The Rotarian. He was known for his humanitarian service and his work for peace in the world. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. It was said during his eulogy that he had a habit of asking, “how can I help?” As we focus on service month, we should all ask when faced with the opportunity, “how can I help you?
