Rotary and Philantropy
This month has been a focus of Philanthropy not only as Rotarians, but other individuals and groups that serve our community. It warms my heart to know that we are stronger together as a community because of individuals willing to serve others that may not be as fortunate as we may have been in life.
Philanthropy is giving back and is much more than a just a tradition for Rotarians — it’s a way of life. Guided by our motto, Service Above Self, we strive to make a difference wherever it’s needed most. Each act of service, big or small, reflects our shared commitment to building stronger communities, fostering friendships, and creating lasting impact. Through service, Rotarians not only change lives — we enrich our own, growing together in purpose, compassion, and fellowship.
As we look ahead, let’s continue to seek new ways to serve, inspire others to join our mission, and keep the Rotary spirit of service shining bright in everything we do.
Here’s why it matters so deeply to Rotarians:
Service Above Self:
This is Rotary’s core motto. Rotarians believe that true fulfillment comes from serving others — that leadership and integrity are best expressed through action, not titles.
Building Stronger Communities:
Rotary clubs focus on local and global service — from eradicating polio to supporting clean water, education, and peace initiatives. Giving back helps strengthen the very communities they live and work in.
Global Impact, Local Roots:
Each Rotarian’s contribution — whether time, talent, or resources — connects to a worldwide network of over a million members, amplifying individual efforts into global change.
Personal Growth and Fellowship:
Service projects bring members together, fostering friendships, leadership skills, and a shared sense of purpose. Giving back is both a moral calling and a way to grow personally and professionally.
Leaving a Legacy:
Rotarians see service as a way to ensure future generations inherit a better world — one shaped by compassion, collaboration, and ethical leadership.
In short, giving back isn’t a side activity for Rotarians — it’s our identity.
Rotary Club of Arlington’s Vision Statement:
“To inspire and unite individuals who passionate about making a lasting impact locally and globally through service, connection and leadership.”
