What Does Community Mean?

What does community mean to you? How do we show Community in Rotary? With each other?

Our city of Arlington has been at the forefront of International TV with many FIFA World Cup games being played here these past few weeks. People from all around the world have made their home or filtered through here cheering for their home or favorite team. The camaraderie in public did not just depend on sticking with their own people but also sharing their joy with anyone in their vicinity that could yell, sing or wave a flag. It was fun to see their reaction when met with kindness, genuine interest, or even the often-overlooked free chips and salsa! It was also eye opening that some genuinely were surprised how great the American people were.

Many words often associated with “community” are a sense of attachment and belonging, individuals sharing common interests, background and purpose, a unified body of individuals (such as social group or nationality…). Although, through all definitions, it’s not just a word about a place, neighborhood, or even an organization, but is set of human relationships.

I love that our Rotary Club of Arlington celebrates and encourages “community” through all that we do. Rotary regularly seeks out the needs in the community we live in, and I am so proud of what we can accomplish together when we SHOW UP! Whether it is serving through charitable activities, fellowship at our lunch meetings, or helping a fellow Rotarian reach their goals. As people of action, our place in Arlington continues to make an impact as we find new projects and keep faithful with our old ones. My hope is that we continue to make differences by where we get involved that can be lasting to not only our immediate community but reach much further out to the world. Let’s continue to explore ideas that will keep us connected while we continue to grow!

I am challenging each member to bring at least one guest a month and to share with them what we are about as a Club. Our Rotary world is one of the strongest, friendship oriented, organizations that care about and put into action real-life solutions to real-life needs for a diverse network of people in multiple communities! If you are not regularly active, come jump back in and see what’s new in Rotary. If we see you every week, just know that you are appreciated and valued as a member! Let’s continue to make a positive impact in our world around us!

Yours in Rotary Service,
Stacy Bridger

Dues News

By now, every club member has received an invoice for semi-annual dues. This invoice covers dues payable for the July 1 to December 31 period. Members may pay their dues via one of three methods:

  • Check: This is the only payment method that is fee-free. Make checks payable to the following organizations, noting in the memo line if the funds are unrestricted (if so, write that word out) or limited to a specific use:
    • Ordinary Dues: Rotary Club of Arlington
    • Club Foundation: Arlington Rotary Foundation
    • Paul Harris Fellowship: Rotary International Foundation

  • Via PayPal: Visit the club payment page and click the Buy Now button in the Club Dues section. Login to PayPal when prompted. Note this will incur an extra fee.

  • Via Bank Draft: Complete the PDF attachment in one of the notification emails and print this out. Note that bank drafts now require a processing fee.

Please submit checks and completed bank draft authorizations to either Brian Anderson or Steve Kleiber at a club meeting. Thank you for paying promptly.
