Stacy's Soliloquy
Are you up to the challenge?
What if we were never challenged by anything? Never had the opportunity to make a change, to question solutions, to attack a complicated issue? We humans have 100’s of choices to make a day that could often go in multiple directions. So, the real question is: How do we deal with so many choices a day?
As Rotarians, we set goals daily that range from short- and long-range planning, to personal workouts, or even help in a humanitarian way. Real life throws real weight at us: responsibilities, expectations, surprises, disappointments, and those quiet moments when we wonder if we are moving forward or just enduring. We are constantly adapting, even though sometimes we do not know it!
Most of us think that challenges are obstacles. But often, they are signals pointing us towards something we care about, something we want to get better at or need to stop supporting. To “rise up” to the task, we focus on the next step, and not the whole mountain. Let’s have self-compassion and allow ourselves to be imperfect.
We have value and CAN make a difference from right where we are! Let’s feel accomplished when we try. That is a success in itself. That is the “don’t give up” piece.
Let’s find involved with new connections and functions. All of us have unique strengths which may pull us over the finish line. Or we give our strengths to someone who just cannot “get there” alone.
As we enter into a week of crazy, busy work, let us never forget those First Responders and military that stepped up to the challenge during the 9/11 attack in New York 25 years ago. We are so very grateful to those whose selfless acts of service saved 100’s of American lives at their own peril.
Let’s be people with everyday impact!
Yours in Rotary Service,
Stacy Bridger
