Fatherhood Coalition of Tarrant County

Mervil Johnson is a native of Fort Worth and graduate of Texas Christian University where he received both a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and French and a Master’s degree in Public Administration. He was also awarded an ITT International Fellowship for one year of graduate study at the Université de Nice in France.  In recognition of this achievement, he was featured in several national magazines including Times, Newsweek, Ebony and Jet. 

Mervil Johnson is co-founder of the Fatherhood Coalition of Tarrant County, where he currently serves as Chairman and is employed as Workforce Collaboration Manager at Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County in Fort Worth, Texas.  From 2011 to 2015 he was Project Director for the first comprehensive, county-wide fatherhood program in Tarrant County known as FACT (Fathers and Children Together).  This collaborative pilot project, funded by the Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Children and Families, was an 8.4 million dollar grant award designed to assist low-income fathers and families reach economic stability while improving their parenting and relationship skills.  

In addition to presenting at local, State and national conferences, Mervil has received numerous special recognitions for his work in the fatherhood & workforce development field.  Highlights include:

  • Fatherhood Coalition Video*, Grand Prize Winner, Examples of Excellence in Supporting Fathers, sponsored by Child & Family Research Partnership, University of Texas at Austin
  • Participant by invitation at  Families 2gether Experts Roundtable for the Office of Family Assistance (Washington, D.C.)
  • Twice winner of Texas Workforce Commission’s “Service to Community Award”
  • In 2012, recognized at White House “Champions of Change” celebration in conjunction with President Obama’s Fatherhood and Mentoring Initiative
  • Workshop Presenter, Office of Family Assistance Region VI State Meeting: “Building A Path to Family Stability”
  • Graduate of Practitioner’s Leadership Institute, Center for Urban Families, (Baltimore, Maryland)
