John Chapman is an innovative urban planner and community leader based in the Dallas–Arlington-Fort Worth area. With a strong background in long-range planning and development policy, John currently serves as a Planning Manager for the City of Arlington, where he leads comprehensive planning initiatives, code updates, and special projects that shape the city’s future growth and quality of life.

 

Over the past decade, he’s driven impactful projects across North Texas, from modernizing development regulations to advancing urban design strategies, conservation planning, public outreach, and GIS efficiencies. Known for blending technical expertise with creative problem-solving, John brings a collaborative approach to public engagement and policy development.

 

An advocate for lifelong learning and leadership, John holds certificates from the American Institute of Certified Planners and Congress for the New Urbanism. He’s an Eagle Scout, a graduate of the APATX Leadership Academy, and an elected board member on the OU LGBTQ Alumni Society and Texas Midwest Section of the American Planning Association. When he’s not working, you’ll find him cheering on the Sooners, being outdoors, mentoring other planners, or exploring new ideas and books in community planning.
